Chill on a Yacht With a conveyable Air Conditioner

Heat can be dangerous; it's a killer especially for the very old and the young. The heat wave in Europe in August 2003 killed an enormous  19 000 people, which shows that air-conditioning is becoming more of a necessity now than ever before.  Those lucky few that spend their spare time yachting around the seven seas aren't exempt from the body's need for temperature control. The sun beats down without mercy on the sea, and a small cabin can truly come to be an unpleasant roasting oven. Transported air conditioning for boats is a must if you truly want that delight cruise to remain a pleasure.

Energy efficiency becomes even more foremost when you are far from dry land. A Miami invention by seasoned yachtsman, Bert Kehren, came after he realized that his air-conditioning unit was the biggest drain on his boat's energy supply. The way Kehren managed to design a highly-efficient Transported unit was by using top capability parts and rearranging them to work more efficiently. Kehren added a rotary compressor to the traditional unit, which is more productive than pistons, and added top capability evaporators, blower motors and a condenser. The 6000-Btu can run all day, holding the air in the boat cool and dry and it uses significantly less power.

The Carry On 7000 is another Us invention that is specifically made for small boats and is the only hatch top air-conditioner around that is meant for the maritime environment. It can fit onto any hatch and is truly installed by one person without tools. The waterproof hatch bag is adjustable, so it fits tightly over the hatch and seals in cool air and keeps out insects. The Carry On lives up to its name; it's contract and light.

If you want to buy a Transported air-conditioning unit for your boat it's worth shopping around a bit. Power supplies on boats are a puny trickier than the power furnish at home, and factors such as size and weight come to be a lot more foremost when your living space is diminished. Using an energy saving unit that can run continually and spare you and your house from feeling drained and tired on a hot, humid day will make all the divergence to your summer holiday.

Real Green - 5 Real Green "Technologies"

Green "technology" has got to be the quintessential oxymoron. Technology, as it is defined and understood today is anyone but "green". Every energy-saving device being marketed to the buyer requires copious amounts of energy to create, not to mention the rare earth minerals that are used in most all new "green technologies." You don't find rare earth minerals, such as dysprosium, (used in hybrid car motors) lying nearby in big piles just waiting to be scooped up. They have to be mined. This fact alone should have greenies cringing. Go to Google earth and take a look at the largest rare earth mine in the world, placed in China. That's right. You can see it from space.

This is what distinguishes fake green from real green. Real green doesn't leave a deficit of resources. It doesn't originate big holes in the earth or deplete resources. It doesn't originate big piles of inorganic matter or fill big pits with toxic junk. If you're authentically concerned about living in harmony with your home, the earth, here are five things you can do that are truly earth-friendly; that will have a unavoidable or neutral impact on your environment. There are many more, but this is a start.

Eliminate all commercially made toiletries regardless of how "natural" they purport to be. Before you look at the ingredients (if they're even listed) look at the packaging. Is it plastic? (Plastic is made from petroleum.) Is it plastic in a slick glossy box? (Plastic coated paper can't be recycled.) authentically every toiletry in your bathroom can be replaced with four uncomplicated items:

Deodorant Stone: This white slightly translucent "stone" is made of mineral salts - that's it. You wet it and rub it on. It will authentically last you a decade or more and it works. It will not keep you from perspiring - you're supposed to perspire - but it will keep obnoxious odors at bay. If you want a scent, a drop of an critical oil is adequate to scent both underarms.

Food-grade hydrogen peroxide or baking soda: These are substitutes for toothpaste and tooth whiteners. Food-grade hydrogen peroxide may be hard to come by depending on where you live. It's a 35% concentration, so it has to be diluted - preferably with filtered water or rainwater. (More on that later.) The 3% hydrogen peroxide you find in the drug store is Not favorable since most of it is contaminated with mercury. Diluted 35% hydrogen peroxide also makes an exquisite mouthwash and tooth whitener. In the absence of 35% h.p., baking soda is also a viable option. And it comes in a recyclable biodegradable paper box with no plastic coating.

News flash: obnoxious body odor, cavities, and bad breath are not the results of aluminum chlorhydrate, fluoride, or minty mouthwash deficiencies. They are all the effect of an acid pH caused by a diet of over-cooked, over-processed foods. Want to smell good and clean up your mouth? Then clean up your diet. If you eat garbage, you're going to smell like garbage, no matter how many toxic chemical-laden products you use.

Homemade soap: production soap is easy and fun. If you use the cold process and rebatch it, you can make bar soap, soft soap, dish and laundry soap, and shampoo from the same recipe. Many citizen like the natural scent of homemade soap, but if you prefer something more foofy, a itsybitsy critical oil goes a long way. (Essential oils are packaged in glass, which can be recycled or reused. They also last a long time because a itsybitsy goes a long way.)

Extra virgin coconut oil: This can replace moisturizer, hair conditioner, and foot crèmes. If you don't like the smell of coconut, use expeller pressed. It has a neutral scent. Coconut oil contains lauric acid, the same as breast milk, and absorbs fully into hair and skin without blocking pours. It is also high in omega 3 fatty acids and helps heal sun damage. Now granted - if you're living in a country where coconut is not a native plant, there is some fossil fuel consumption required to get it to you. However, a itsybitsy goes a long way. Buy it in glass jars if potential (less petroleum consumption.) For skin and hair moisturizing, put about 1/8 tsp. In the palm of your hand and rub your hands together. Massage it into your face and neck and wipe the rest off in your hair, working it through to the ends. Adjust the estimate for thickness and distance of hair. Done right, it takes care of the frizzies and fly-aways and makes even sun-damaged hair feel soft. Don't worry if you get a itsybitsy too much on - it will dispell and interestingly won't stay greasy looking. It can be worn under make-up, but it should be given time to absorb. It takes about ½ hour. Massage about 1/8 tsp. Or less into your feet to preclude heal cracking and athlete's foot. Coconut oil has anti-fungal properties.

Just say No to drugs. Remember that old campaign? What ever happened to that? Now pharmaceuticals are the most abused drugs in the Us, outstripping street drugs, and Tv commercials have replaced shady street projection drug pushers. We even insist that the government pay for our habit and they're happy to oblige. What's wrong with this picture?

Prescription drugs are a serious environmental hazard to water and soil. (Plus, they come in Plastic bottles - more petroleum.) Municipal water supplies do not and cannot filter them out. Fantasize the outrageous combinations of pharmaceuticals, especially psychotropic drugs, which come through your tap and flow into face and ground water. Drug pollution doesn't just come from flushing outdated pills down the toilet. Drugs are prescribed assuming that you will pass up to 60% of them through your body without using or exciting them. That means every drug user is flushing pharmaceuticals down their toilet, not just the surviving relatives of the granny who dies with 20 prescriptions in her rehabilitation cabinet.

There is no disease known to man that is the effect of a drug deficiency. There are no drugs that cure - they only treat. And your body doesn't know the variation in the middle of a legal and an illegal drug. Think about that.

There are natural alternatives to every ache and most of those alternatives start with what you eat and drink. There is a plethora of data out there if you're truly motivated to live earth-friendly and healthy to boot. You can't live green and use drugs. It's as uncomplicated as that.

Collect rainwater: Depending on where you live, rainwater is a relatively clean source of good water and if you set up a passive system, once it's in place, the water is free. In urban areas with a lot of air pollution, this may not be a good alternative, but barring that, mechanically filtered rainwater is drinkable and authentically favorable for watering your...

Organic garden! estimate four: grow your own food. Again, there is abundant data about growing food just about anywhere you live, from the average suburban lot to box gardening on an apartment balcony. You will be amazed at how much great food you grow yourself tastes, not to mention the satisfaction of realizing you can take care of yourself. In increasing to that, organic gardening makes thorough use of a fifth way to be green....

Composting: Your kitchen scraps, non-coated paper, and even dryer lint can all be composted either in a collection bin or worm bin. Red wiggler worms make exquisite composters and there are kits available that make worm composting easy and favorable even in itsybitsy spaces. There is no odor problem linked with them. Increasingly, offices are even using them in their lunchrooms.

These truly green tips are, let's face it, not contributors to the economic recovery. In fact, if you continue down the path of truly living green, you will cut your consumption of marketed goods in critical ways. And less consumption, while good for the earth, is not good for an economy based on the unlimited increase of spending. On the exciting side though, given that the whole theory is foundational on a fiat currency and is destined to collapse anyway, regardless of either or not you continue to over-spend and pollute, at least you'll have some survival skills. While all nearby you panic, you'll be fed, healthy, and clean. Now that's sustainability!

What to consider When selecting between a New or Used Rv

Should you get a used or new Rv? You will find pros and cons to both. I've been down each road. So here's my own conception on the topic.

Brand new or Used:

  • Less is more at a lower price (Used)
  • Age makes a inequity (Rv park rules)
  • Routine maintenance
  • Exactly where to find (Brand-new)
  • Where to locate (Used)

If you want the most bang for your $ look at a Pre-owned Rv. You'll save the well-known off the lot devaluation; get a larger or more decked out model and perhaps have less high-priced installments. Or, get yourself a comparable Rv to a brand new one but with reduced payments.

Some of the downfalls of previously used Rv Toy Haulers to consider; will be age and disposition maintenance. In the event you are going to live fulltime in your Toy Box (don't laugh, some legitimately do) understand that a amount Rv Parks will not approve Rvs over the age of 10 years. Ridiculous, yes, but true. If this describes you, then I'd bind to a Toy hauler around 5 years old.

Another downside of a previously used Rv is disposition maintenance. Besides the general winterizing and the like, previously used Rv's may have weaknesses, like declining or marginal frig or deteriorating plastics. Pay attention to unidentified or concealed problems. These could lead to a major outflow of funds. A freezer may run 00 or more plus lord knows what it would cost to refurbish the Air conditioning. Shop rates locally are exceeding /hour.

I chose to spend in a wholly new Rv Toy Hauler and purchased an extended warranty. I may don't have the most Rv for the dollar; any way I 'm without any repair headaches for 7 years. This means peace of mind and hopefully freeing me from repair work.

If you opt for the extended warranty be definite it covers most of the add-ons together with appliances. Inspecting that refrigerators, Air conditioners, and generators will most legitimately be higher priced change goods, ensure they will be included. Also think the down-time while your Rv is getting fixed.

Locating a New or Previously used Toy Box:

While a Rv dealership stands out as the clear option for shopping the new market, make sure you find out about the used Rvs they have stuffed in the back angle of the display lot. These are not necessarily shown to you first since there is more behalf in a new transaction.

Speaking of a sales person, in case one is more focused on the purchase than getting you in to the ideal Rv to suit your needs, convert the salesman. Sufficient said.

On-line options like rvtrader.com and rvtraderonline.com could be a great spot to seek out your New/Used Recreational car and to size up the market. Remember that quite a few retailers place advertisements for New/Used Toy Haulers on these web sites. The good thing is you can look without having salesman leaning (just as my child would legitimately point out "hovering") over your shoulder. A cup of coffee, an easy chair, and all the time on the planet, now that is what I call online shopping.

Don't be ov erly worried about obtaining your motor home over the internet. I've made both small and large purchases online. A touch of buying smarts from you will make the purchase trek, well. You might want to ask the Rv Owner as many questions as it takes to get you definite with their trustworthiness, and the Rv they are typically marketing. You may even ask for added photographs to be emailed to you.

Only when you are comfortable, should you take the next step. Which is to contemplate the Rv in person? Avoid sellers who need huge retaining payments preceding your bodily assessment. When the proprietor needs more than a merge hundred dollars as a retainer, I would believe his / her motives to be "suspect."

Concerning inspections. Going a long distance to contemplate the Rv may not be sensible, there's an option. By mutual arrangement it is inherent to agenda (for a small fee) to get the Rv scrutinized by a reputable Rv dealer. A narrative ought to be sent to you personally from the repair shop or maybe you can call the dealer. I've used this service, to sell an automobile, with definite results.

Actually all you need to settle is brand new or used and either or not to walk the road or tickle the laptop keyboard. spend some time and make the very best decisions for your requirements.

It well is a matter of priority, and being able to wake up every morning feeling refreshed is a higher priority in my eyes than being able to turn on the tv without having to plug it in first.

There are a estimate of devotee online air conditioning retailers that stick a wide range of Transported air conditioners, coolers and dehumidifiers, just make sure you look out for those retailers that sell Cfc free products.

Most local fresh food markets (Not Supermarkets) are a great source of healthy nutrient rich food and you can enjoy the climate with a friend over a healthy lunch. If you are unable to make it to the markets and your only option is the supermarket, then I encourage you to do your shopping from colse to the outside edge of the shop, where all the freshest vegetables, meats, dairy and fresher bread are kept. Buy or even grow (if you can) some herbs and spices to enhance the flavour of your meals as well as growth the number of minerals in your diet. Minerals help the body discharge all the vitamins which work to build best a uncut health.

With my experience in the health and Fitness industry i have recognised that very rarely do many of my clients focus on, take note of or are even aware of state of interior health, yet only later after the health has destabilised to the point of illness or disease do many recognise it in their lack of energy, motivation, fluctuating weight (not always increased) and lastly decreased health status.

Here are a few questions you should be asking yourself and answering...honestly!

1. Are you involved with the number of toxins and chemicals in your environment?
2. Do you feel you get sufficient nourishment from the food you currently eat?
3. Do you eat organic produce?
4. Do you currently get a sound 8 hours sleep every night?
5. Do you feel alert every morning when you wake?
6. Do you have a hard time losing weight?
7. Do you consume coffee, tea, sugar, candy or similar products to give you a boost while the day?

• More than 65 insecticides, pesticides and herbicides can be found on everyday furnish purchased at the market?
• More citizen today are reliant on outside stimulants to get through the day, caffeine being the biggest culprit
• Most of us currently have a scheduled maintenance for our car, our home air conditioner, water systems and even our pools; but we are not always as diligent with our own internal maintenance.

"Education and Not Medication Is the Key To Optimum, Sustainable health & Wellness"

You see then, the biggest issue (pardon the pun) for many citizen this day and age in our western societies isn't just a lack of fitness, motivation, determination but also a lack of real and life giving knowledge and schooling when it comes to healthy nourishment and sustainability. As a health pro I believe and promote a holistic approach to a unblemished and sustainable lifestyle. health professionals should be educating clients and patients toward a holistic and unblemished lifestyle through sufficient nourishment and exercise. I firmly believe that schooling and not medication is the key to an optimum, sustainable health and wellness.

• Exercise; Your healthy motivation to achieve!

The days are gone when:

1. A simple walk colse to the block was the motivation to go to the shops and buy the milk and bread. Instead Today: driving to the shops in the car is much more time efficient.
2. A game of football, cricket or soccer in the street was interrupted by passing cars and the milkman! Instead Today: interrupted by a new game for the "simulated game console"
3. A rainy day was spent inside playing cards, construction diminutive battle grounds in the bedroom, a game of monopoly or scrabble Instead Today: hours spent in front of the 100cm plasma playing the newest software game
4. The tired parent establishment a simple meal consisting a platter of fresh carrots, celery, cheese, tomato, capsicum, cucumber, beetroot, apples, bananas, nuts, bread rolls, sliced ham and turkey... And that is just what I can remember from when I was 5yrs old. Instead Today: order Fatty, Overcooked, Unhealthy Take Away

These are just a few examples of the changes which I have noticed in the Australian western cultured background of the last 30 years and I grew up in a large house where everyone who could; played soccer, gymnastics, cricket, basket ball, hockey, volleyball, tennis, Afl, rugby league, rugby union..you name it we played it either competitively or in a backyard, quiet street capacity. Exercise has been left in the dark and only the committed, sport goal oriented, individuals remain. Otherwise it is those committed to some sort of weekly fitness schedule with a personal trainer. To those who don't have a personal trainer and last longer than 12 months, striving for above mean health...congratulations. I'm talking about those who may be in the kind of gold passes to their local gym, I'm talking about those who step outside at any time of the year and share in some sort of Exercise regimen or personal health interest.

1. What makes you tick, is it coffee or endorphins?
2. What food did you eat as a child, was it chocolate cake or fruit?
3. How many times can you run colse to the block without getting tired?
4. Have you been inspired to go for a walk, ride, run or swim in the last 30 days?
5. Have you just eaten so much food that you feel lethargic?
6. How many times have you been sick this year?
7. How many times did you get sick last year?

Let's Do Our Part: The Global Warming Phenomenon

Throughout its long history, Earth has warmed and cooled time and again. Atmosphere has changed when the planet received more or less sunlight due to subtle shifts in its orbit, as the Atmosphere changed, or when the Sun's power varied. Global Warming is the unusually rapid increase in Earth's mean outside temperature over the past century primarily due to the greenhouse gases released by people burning fossils fuel. Scientist predicted that as the world consumes ever more fossil fuel, greenhouse gas will continue to rise, and Earth mean outside temperature will rise with them.

Earth has experienced Atmosphere changes in the past, without help from humanity. But the current climactic warming is occurring much more rapidly than past warming events, so it's a wake up call to humanity. So, it's time to move and everybody must unite because we need to save our planet Earth. How? Here are some lists to consequent in order to fight against Global Warming phenomenon:

  • Replace a quarterly incandescent light bulb with a ageement fluorescent light bulb (cfl).
  • Install a programmable thermostat.
  • Move your thermostat down 2 in winter and up 2 in summer.
  • Clean or replace filters on your furnace and air conditioner.
  • Choose power productive appliances when making new purchases.
  • Do not leave appliances on standby.
  • Defrost old fridges and freezers regularly.
  • Get a home power audit.
  • Use less hot water.
  • Be sure you're recycling at home.
  • Recycle your organic waste.
  • Buy recycled paper products.
  • Plant a tree.
  • Switch to green power.
  • Buy organic foods as much as possible.
  • Encourage the switch to renewable energy.
  • Encourage your school or company to cut emissions.
  • Tell Congress to act.
  • Eat less meat. (Do you know that Methane is the second most valuable greenhouse gas and cows are one of the most methane emitters? Their grassy diet and manifold stomachs cause them to produce methane, which they exhale with every breath).

These list only shows that most products we buy cause greenhouse gas emission in one or an additional one way, while output or distribution. So, we as individual can help if we adopt a more responsible lifestyle, starting from little things everyday.

Let's mind choosing upcycled products while our next shopping day. Let's promote, use and wear products made of recycled materials from companies who are for renewable power programs. ThehandBagCloset for example promotes recycling waste and old materials to cut emission of greenhouse gases. This is a company who sells and partners with communities who has the skills to produce handicrafts and homemade recycled handbags, thus, helping to save our planet in it's catastrophic situation. The products mostly composed of handcrafted bags, handcrafted purses, wristlets, and fashioned bag accessories, all are made with recycled materials such as candy wrappers, recycled magazines, recycled juice pouches, decommissioned tires, and rice sacks. These materials are all Eco-friendly made by scholar artisans from Mexico, Indonesia, and Philippines. When it comes to earth-friendly ladies bags, two brands I trust the most is the Nahui Ollin brand and the Naveh Milo brand.

Let's help save planet Earth; let's recycle our decommissioned materials and waste. And let's switch to renewable energy. God will help us in our endeavor.

Helpful Tips

1. Fill up your car or truck in the morning when the temperature is still cool. Remember that all aid stations have their warehouse tanks buried below ground; and the colder the ground, the denser the gasoline. When it gets warmer gasoline expands, so if you're filling up in the afternoon or in the evening, what should be a gallon is not exactly a gallon. A one-degree rise in temperature is a big deal for businesses, but aid stations don't have temperature payment at their pumps.

2. If a tanker truck is filling the station's tank at the time you want to buy gas, do not fill up; most likely dirt and sludge in the tank is being stirred up when gas is being delivered, and you might be transferring that dirt from the lowest of their tank into your car's tank.

3. Fill up when your gas tank is half-full (or half-empty), because the more gas you have in your tank the less air there is and gasoline evaporates rapidly, especially when it's warm.

4. If you look at the trigger you'll see that it has three delivery settings: slow, medium and high. When you're filling up do not squeeze the trigger of the nozzle to the high setting. You should be pumping at the slow setting, thereby minimizing vapors created while you are pumping. Hoses at the pump are corrugated; the corrugations act as a return path for vapor salvage from gas that already has been metered. If you are pumping at the high setting, the agitated gasoline contains more vapor, which is being sucked back into the inexpressive tank so you're getting less gas for your money.

Hope this will help ease your 'pain at the pump'.

5. Hate foggy windshields? Buy a chalkboard eraser and keep it in the glove box of your car. When the windows fog, rub with the eraser! Works good than a cloth.

6. Put small piles of cornmeal where you see ants. They eat it, take it "home", can't dispell it so it kills them. It may take a week or so, especially if it rains, but it works and you don't have to worry about pets or small children being harmed!

7. If you seal an envelope and then perceive you forgot to contain something inside, just place your sealed envelope in the freezer for an hour or two, Viola! It unseals easily.

8. Heat up leftover pizza in a nonstick skillet on top of the stove, set heat to med-low and heat till warm. This keeps the crust crispy. No soggy micro pizza. This was featured on a cooking channel and it well works.

9. Put cooked egg yolks in a zip lock bag. Seal, mash till they are all broken up. Add remainder of ingredients, reseal, keep mashing it up mixing thoroughly, cut the tip of the baggy, squeeze blend into egg. Just throw bag away when done easy clean up.

10. To warm biscuits, pancakes, or muffins that were refrigerated, place them in a microwave with a cup of water. The increased moisture will keep the food moist and help it reheat faster.

11. Use a wet cotton ball or Q-tip to pick up the small shards of glass you can't see easily.

12. Place a dryer sheet in your pocket. It will keep mosquitoes away. Another remedy is to spray yourself with mouth wash.

13. To get something out of a heat register or under the fridge add an empty paper towel roll or empty gift wrap roll to your vacuum. It can be bent or flattened to get in narrow openings.

14. Pin a small security pin to the seam of your slip and you will not have a clingy skirt or dress. Same thing works with slacks that cling when wearing panty hose. Place pin in seam of slacks and ** ta da!--static is gone.

15. Before you pour sticky substances into a measuring cup, fill with hot water. Dump out the hot water, but don't dry cup. Add your ingredient such as peanut butter, and watch how well it comes right out.

16. Use your hair conditioner to shave your legs. It's a lot economy than shaving cream and leaves your legs well smooth. It's also a great way to use up the conditioner you bought but didn't like when you tried it in your hair.

17. Can't afford to pay high prices for pot pourie? Trim some of the tops and buds off the flowers of your choice. Place in a glass jar with the lid loose but outside the opening. Add Rosemary, Thyme and cinnamon and then shake it good. Open the jar. As the flowers dry out, they will fill the room with scent.

18. When you buy a package of cake frosting from the store, whip it with your mixer for a few minutes. You can duplicate it in size. You get to frost more cake/cupcakes with the same amount. You also eat less sugar and fat per serving.

19. The heating unit went out on my clothes dryer! The gentleman that fixes things nearby the house for us told us that he wanted to show us something and he went over to the dryer and pulled out the lint filter. It was clean. (I all the time clean the lint from the filter after every load.) He told us that he wanted to show us something; he took the filter over to the sink, ran hot water over it. The lint filter is made of a mesh material - I'm sure you know what your dryer's lint filter looks like. Well....the hot water just sat on top of the mesh! It didn't go through it at all! He told us that dryer sheets cause a film over that mesh that's what burns out the heating unit. You can't See the film, but it's there. It's what is in the dryer sheets to make your clothes soft and static free - that nice fragrance too. You know how they can feel waxy when you take them out of the box, well this stuff builds up on your clothes and on your lint screen. This is also what causes dryer units to catch fire and potentially burn your house down! He said the best way to keep your dryer working for a very long time (and to keep your electric bill lower) is to take that filter out and wash it with hot soapy water and an old toothbrush (or other brush) at least every six months. He said that makes the life of the dryer last at least twice as long!

20. Start putting in your plants, work the nutrients in your soil. Wet newspapers put layers nearby the plants overlapping as you go cover with mulch and forget about weeds. Weeds will get through some gardening plastic they will not get through wet newspapers.

21. To keep squirrels from eating your plants sprinkle your plants with cayenne pepper. The cayenne pepper doesn't hurt the plant and the squirrels won't come near it.

22. To get rid of pesky fruit flies, take a small glass fill it 1/2" with Apple Cider Vinegar and 2 drops of dish washing liquid, mix well. You will find those flies drawn to the cup and gone forever!

How To value Allergy Filters

There as been a rising interest in allergy filters for the home over the last several years. Once something only purchased by people with persisting condition conditions, more and more people are aware of the need for cleaner indoor air.

There are several distinct types of filters that are marketed by their manufacturers as allergy filters. Some of these are of advantage to those with allergies and some do not. In this article, we will recognize allergy filters that are installed in the air conditioning or heating system, units that for real attach to the air conditioner or furnace, stand alone allergy filters, ionizers and ozone machines that are marketed as allergy filters, and allergy filters used to filter the fresh air coming into your home.

There are several distinct types of allergy filters to use in place of your quarterly filter on your air conditioning or heating unit (Hvac). This is in place of the current filter you are using on the return side of your system. Most homes use a filter made from a blue, spun polyester media. Unfortunately, these trap very few particles and for real have to be loaded up with dust to start trapping large particles. A step up from this level of filtration is the dry-tack polyester pad. These disposable allergy filter pads fit into a permanent frame. Each change, you remove the old allergy filter pad and insert a new one. The pads are commonly treated with an antimicrobial to keep mold from growing on them.

The next step up in potential to trap particles is a pleated filter material. These allergy filters are also disposable and the better made ones will last for up to three months at a time. The idea behind the pleated material to make the allergy filter is that by pleating the fabric you create more covering area. More covering area means more media to trap allergens. When finding at these filters, you want a Merv rating of 8 or better. The Merv scale ranges from 1 (least efficient) to 16 (most efficient), and measures a filter's potential to remove particles in the 3 to 10 micron size range. The higher the rating, the more particles removed. Also, higher rated filters trap more of the smaller particles. Last but not least in the Hvac filter category is the permanent filter. These allergy filters create an electrostatic payment by the friction created as air moves over the filtering media. These filters are commonly very high in efficiency (that means they trap many particles) but may restrict air flow. This is true especially for older Hvac equipment. Once a month the permanent allergy filter is cleaned with water and reinstalled in the unit.

The next category of allergy filter for the Hvac ideas is a whole house Hepa filtration unit that attaches directly to the Hvac system. These units can be whether Hepa (high efficiency particulate air) or Tfp (turbulent flow precipitators). They work by drawing a part of the air (usually about 30%) from the return side and passing it straight through the allergy filter and then returning it back into the ideas to be whether heated or cooled. These machines allow you to use one allergy filter to clean all the air in a home. However, the Hvac ideas must be on at all times for the air to be filtered. This may not be an option in parts of the area where the heating or air conditioning ideas is not used year-around.

The allergy filter that most people are customary with is the stand alone Hepa filter. Hepa is a measurement. It means that 99.97% of particles as small as 0.3 microns are trapped by the filter. There are many makes and models on the shop today. The most foremost consideration is getting the permissible size allergy filter for the area to be cleaned. Most allergy filter manufacturers rate their machines in square footage. This is not a helpful measurement, as we live in 3 dimensions and not 2!

The first calculation to make is the volume of air you need to clean. This is expressed as the cubic feet of air in the room. Multiply distance of the room in feet times the width of the room in feet times the height of the ceiling in feet to get the volume of air in cubic feet. (Length x width x ceiling height = volume). When you recap the distinct makes and models of allergy filters, the most foremost estimate is the estimate of cubic feet of air moved per little by the machines motor. The allergy filter can never clean any more air than the motor can move. You use this estimate to determine how speedily that motor can clean your volume of air. For example, if you have a larger bedroom that is 12 x 14 with 10 foot ceilings, you have a volume of air of 1,680 cubic feet (12 x 14 x 10 = 1,680). If you buy a motor that moves 100 cubic feet of air per minute, than it will take 16.8 minutes to turn over the air in that room one time. (1,680 / 100 = 16.8) That means that the air will pass straight through the filter less than 4 times an hour. You want a minimum of 6 and ideally at least 8 air exchanges an hour. In this instance, the motor is sorely undersized and would not be a good buy, no matter what the price. It is plainly too small for the size of room. If you have such a large room, you would need to whether buy many units or look for an allergy motor with more power. One of the most noteworthy units on the shop is made by Austin Air. They make several models that move 400 cubic feet of air per minute. In our previous example, the higher powered motor would succeed in an air transfer every 4.2 minutes and over 14 air exchanges an hour.

There are also machines that are marketed as allergy filters that are not truly filters and most for real are not for people with allergies. These "allergy filters" are ozone machines and ionizers. Ozone units clean the air by utilizing a third molecule of oxygen as a free radical to destroy odors at their source. Ozone is not productive in removing particles from the air, but it is productive in controlling odors. Ozone is also a lung irritant and should not be used by people with allergies or asthma. Many of the manufacturers of ozone producing machines do not disclose this bit of information. Ionizers are also frequently marketed as allergy filters. They do not in fact consist of a filter. Ionizers work off the basic principle that opposite expensed particles attract. Some units work by the use of unavoidable and negative expensed rods. The particle enters the back of the unit, passes one rod and picks up a payment and then is drawn to the second rod with the opposite charge. The qoute is once the second rod is covered in particles it no longer emits a strong adequate payment to attract any more particles. The rods must then be cleaned, releasing particles back into the air where they are inhaled by the allergic person. The other type of ionizer uses radio frequency to send both unavoidable and negative ions out into the room. The neutral particles pick up these charges, then stick to each other, and then fall to the first covering they hit in clumps. These machines work great to keep the particles knocked down, but as soon as there is any movement in the room, the particles are disturbed and become airborne again. Many ionizers also yield trace amounts of ozone.

The last type of allergy filter is not a traditional filter, but is a special screen used on your windows. These screens are called micro air screens and they can trap particles as small as 8 microns. These allergy filters fit into your windows and allow you to keep your windows open and bring in fresh covering air without bringing in mold, pollen, or other pollution.

So as you can see, there are many types of allergy filters made today. Which type of filter you use determines how clean your air will be.

Senior Living Communities - Where Does Mom's Rent Go?

Retirement communities seem like a great idea on the surface: like a cruise ship for seniors. Collective opportunities, wellness opportunities, fine dining, extra holiday functions, maintenance services, housekeeping; some have nurse stations, and some have full time Lvn's rehearse a picture of faultless care just waiting to put it's arms nearby your aging parent.

You and your parent tour a facility. The habitancy are so nice. The place looks like a fine hotel. Everyone is so happy to see you. It must be heaven. Oops, trying to avoid that! But as the last stop on route, except of procedure for some of you, not a bad place to hang your silk scarf, and withhold hose.

"That beautiful apartment is how much?" ,000 dollars a month..."and up!!!!????" You swallow. Subtle, but hard. Your parent imagines friends, fun, privilege, bridge players, and chocolate. So where does your rent go? I will give you a hint: it is not dining services, or housekeeping, or maintenance, or capital improvements of condition care, or activities. In many upscale senior living communities, you may be surprised to discover that over 40-50% of the operational dollars go to marketing and not to services that directly benefit your parent.

The infer is simple, senior residents move into these communities when they have an mean of 5 years left to live. Sad, but factual. So possible in all "retirement communities" is alot of resident turnover, even when residents are content within their community. Just imagine the numbers, when the residents are not content.

When a resident dies, an apartment becomes empty, and corporate revenues shrink. Some corporations have silent partners (investors), who do not appreciate declines in occupancy levels. Less occupants, less profits. So a enormous amount of your rent dollars are spent attracting a continual stream of new residents. 40-50% of the annual allocation at the property level is spent on marketing, and the recruitment of time to come residents. There is even greater turnover, of course, when the services are so-so. I was given .40 per someone per meal, based on two meals per day in one such upscale seclusion society in La Jolla California, as recently as 2007. Marketing first, nutrition? Somewhere much farther down the list.

The caretaking mission represented by these corporations is unquestionably not their mission. Profit, not people, again is the mission. The mission of most of these communities is Not to keep your parents content with cruise ship five star services, no matter what they say to you, while your "free" marketing tour and lunch. The corporate mission is to keep the construction full, originate large revenues, make enormous profits, purchase more properties, turn them in to more goldmines. Oh, the hours spent in departmental leadership meetings, working on the shape of the spin.

Until late 2007, I functioned as the Dietary Director for one such "for-profit" corporation. This Carlsbad company, proudly announced, at the 2006 dietary seminar for all dietary directors, that they made a Net profit of million dollars with their 23 properties nationwide. More shocking is the fact that some of their properties went much of the year below full occupancy. You can just imagine the profit at full occupancy. Al ot of profit for a enterprise that on my campus, face of dining services, had a lot of resident turnover, unhappiness with other services, and four menagerial director turnovers in two years! It is only about occupancy folks. The rest is marketing.

I am not alone in my comprehension of just how senior living communities operate. But, habitancy on the inside of the industry, do not speak up because: they are care-givers, and need these jobs. Some, like me, come to be disillusioned care-givers, and leave the industry. Find the honest broker on your marketing tour, and call them later for a personal chat. They will tell you. Most workers, and local property leadership in these associates are disillusioned too. Or they have darker motives for staying in silence.

There are many things I discovered in my tenures, that have turned me off to seclusion communities as a viable time to come choice for aging adults. I have not even touched on the mean direct care-giver to resident ratios of 1 to 20 :at the very best. This ratio is at the very root of the problem. Try caring for twenty parents with two hundred challenges daily per parent, and you will get the picture. The cloth just does not stretch to cover the need.

Higher corporate costs drive operational changes that should concern adult children seeking quality residential solutions to caring for their aging parents. I do not believe that all upscale seclusion communities unquestionably fulfill their care giving promises: and today there are a lot of other alternatives you should also consider. For this much rent ( and more), similar services, are offered for this inclusive price: you should, and do expect five star level housekeeping, fine dining faultless with extra holiday programming; wellness programs that focus on fall prevention, strength training, and equilibrium education for your parent; maintenance (toilets do have their problems, so do air conditioners/heaters, elevators).

If you are still considering an upscale independent living society of 100 to 500 occupants, consider this: every year, you can expect a cost of living growth of 5-9 % in these communities: either you like it or not. And trust me, the corporation can all the time defend the reasons for the increase. You will have only the choice to pay or move.

Are independent living communities unquestionably full of independent living seniors? seclusion communities usually bill themselves as housing for independent living residents: those with minimal mobility and functionality issues. But in the last twelve years, I have seen less truly independent residents, and more very dependent, borderline assisted living or early dementia type residents move in. The corporation is motivated naturally by the drive to keep the place full. This creates a great interrogate on assistance personnel, often untrained. If your parent is very independent, it can be depressing. Your high functioning parent may be seated in the dining room, at dinner, with someone with incontinence issues. Or worse.

So before you sign that rental agreement, remember what I have shared with you : current and time to come residents are hunted permanently by full time marketing habitancy to keep the construction full. We had 140 residents, and two full time marketers: they were each required to make 50 phone call contacts each day to "prospects". Be comfortable but observant, when taking a marketing tour of a community: discover the care giving ratio; study the interaction of the residents with each other, and with group heads, peak into menagerial offices, talk with the maintenance director and the dietary director about the challenges of their positions. Call them later to ask about what they didn't say. Find out about the property's budget: anyway you can. Look at the food served; tour the kitchen, look in those walk-ins. Fresh, homemade preparations or commercial preparations? Sit down at lunch with a random group, and not of the marketer's choosing. all the time try to take an 'unplanned' tour, to get the most honest insight.

In conclusion, you may get more services, of a great quality, in smaller board and cares, than you will in large seclusion communities. seclusion communities do have a huge socialization advantage: a lot more prospective playmates for your parents. But they are not for everybody. Make sure to take an commerce savvy pro along with you while you are touring, and examining what you unquestionably Are getting for your rent.

Solar power is clean, facilely ready and renewable without manufactured intervention. These features lend it to being very sought after in the new cheaper to lessen dependence on primary fuel sources. vigor from the sun is easy to capture, store and convert into the much coveted and relied upon electricity. The technology for converting sunlight into electricity has been around for decades. You have probably seen them most oftentimes in calculators. Solar electricity is called photovoltaic; and businesses as well as government are looking the value in solar energy.

The basic factory is taking that same technology found in calculators and increasing it to power your home. Photovoltaic technology creates electricity from both direct and scattered sunlight. habitancy who live in the South will find a greater value in solar vigor than those in the North due to location. Children - The building Blocks of Every Nation

I saw him lying half-awake under a push cart. His tender and brittle face told me that something must be development him sleepless - something must have been bothering him at such a young age when other children of his age don't have to carry the weight of the world. I was to have a series of such sleepless night when I was haunted by the image of that boy. Here I was lying on a neatly made bed, my hunger satisfied with homemade food and an air conditioner whirring, reasoning about that boy. I wondered how many such children are out there in my locality and over the whole nation. His image - poorly clad with the body left to the mercy of the blood sucking insects - contrasted with the eternal bliss I was living in was more disturbing. I was trying hard not to ruminate about the boy; thankfully the chores at the office let me go easy on myself for a while.

I could not erase the image of the boy from my thoughts for days together. Whenever I bumped into kids of the same age I understanding about him. For me he represented the society's poverty and indifference towards the time to come generation. We are so lost in the maddening crowd and so caught up in the race of life to stand out, pause and ponder.

When we are deeply involved in the thoughts of succession at work place and economic or group development that we let the governments take care of other issues and do not even think for a puny who would address the core issues of poverty, lack of basic civic amenities and even basic schooling for children? These incidents made me see beyond and think how one could take the accountability of these issues and work on them rather than fret at the sight of kids who are seen on the streets whether begging or getting flogged accused of stealing? They are deprived of their childhood; their dreams crushed under child labour and exploitation as sex workers. Basic schooling and healthy life are their basic proprietary but who will fight for their cause?

Do you know there are *an estimated 158 million children aged 5-14 engaged in child labour in India which is one in six children in the world is a child labour. Millions of children are engaged in risky situations or conditions, such as working in mines, working with chemicals and pesticides in agriculture or working with risky machinery. They are everywhere but invisible, toiling as domestic servants in homes, labouring behind the walls of workshops, in plantations secret from group view.

*Nearly 13 per cent of all children in South Asia are engaged in child labour which equals around 44 million. Of these children, 29 million live in India, where the child labour rate is 12 per cent. Within India itself there are vast divergences between states in the incidence of child labour, ranging from 32 per cent in Gujarat to 3 per cent in Goa and Kerala.

If these kids are the future, who will originate them into strong pillars that supports the very existence of our nation?

With these lingering thoughts I and my friends sat back sharing our concern for some Chai-biscuits. I realized that even they shared similar concerns and ideas on the same issue. Many of the like minded friends offered to help volunteer for this cause and wanted to put in time and exertion to bring a convert in the lives of such underprivileged kids. But that was not it. This was a temporary solution. What happens when we have transformed our lives growing professionally and personally with a shift from Chai-biscuits to green tea & Cookies like a sophisticated group being? What would happen when this passion and concern just dies out like any other interest in our life due to work and personal qualms?

This is a ask which each and every citizen of this country or any nation facing similar development issues should address to create a harmonious and equitable community and originate a sustainable solution for the future.

There are numerous Ngo's coming up that work for the development of such underprivileged section of the community with keep of International agencies to generally provide schooling and other basic rights. For example Paatshala, an Ngo exciting youth towards buiding a best tomorrow. An well designed model for Private- group Participation (Ppp) would work wonders for increase of any developing nation. May be the first step towards taking up accountability would be to collaborate with such Ngo's to create a best environment socially and economically and a school of understanding for the younger generations to blossom and grow.

(*Data gathered from Unicef statistics on Child Labour in South Asia)

Detox Your Home

Twenty years ago the word “detox” meant a trip to the drug restoration center. Today it defines the conscious act of cleaning up our insides down to the cellular level. Preservatives, pesticides, chemicals and radiation treatments spur the health-conscious to detoxify their bodies while making life-long changes that will help keep their cells clear of harmful substances. In today’s health-conscious home you are likely to find plentifulness of fruits and vegetables, raw dairy, grains and legumes – all preservative, pesticide and Gmo free – but if you look under the kitchen sink you are also likely to find adequate chemicals to wipe out the whole family.

The median American household has 3 – 10 gallons of hazardous, toxic chemicals, most of them sitting in colorful bottles right under our sinks. Many tasteless products comprise chlorine, alcohol, ammonia, bleach, formaldehyde, and lye. These toxic chemicals can cause allergies, birth defects, nausea, inflammation and burning of the whole respiratory system, confusion, headaches, symptoms of thinking illness, and are linked to neurological, liver and kidney damage, blindness, asthma and cancer.

No health-conscious private wants to consume pesticides, but we ingest them daily through skin feel as well as breathing them directly into our lungs by using market products in the home. approximately 1,400 pesticides, herbicides and fungicides are found in buyer products – many of which are under the kitchen sink.

Checking labels doesn’t help. Not only are clubs exempt from listing all the ingredients in their bottles of chemical voodoo, but the New York Poison operate town found that 85% of stock warning labels inadequately informs consumers of potential dangers, like the deadly respiratory irritant chloramine, which is made by mixing chlorine with ammonia. The Seattle Poison town alone receives 70,000 calls per year regarding spillage or swallowing of harmful substances in the home, and 1 in 10 children under the age of 6 ends up in the emergency room due to accidental exposure to household products.

Think about it: mopping, spraying, and wiping our homes with toxic chemicals make our attempts at detoxifying our bodies much like trying to punch a hole in water- it doesn’t work. A determined watered and fed plant, for example, will still get sick if its surroundings are contaminated. Why should we be any different?

Luckily, detoxing the home is easy. All you need to do is get rid of the market cleansers underneath the kitchen sink and replace them with vinegar, baking soda and castile soap. That’s it. Age-old, tried and true, these are the ingredients for a healthy, chemical-free home.

Vinegar cuts grease, dissolves mineral deposits, removes mildew, soap or wax buildup, deodorizes, cleans windows and mirrors, is a astonishing fabric softener and hair conditioner - and tastes great in salads.
Baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) is a beneficial all purpose cleaner. It can be used as a scouring powder without scratching surfaces; it neutralizes acids, deodorizes, softens water, and polishes metals, jewelry, pottery and plastic. Baking soda softens fabrics and removes stains and can also be used as a non-toxic underarm deodorant and toothpaste.

Castile soap is a vegetable oil-based soap. Olive oil castile soap works well without drying the skin. Castile soap can be used in place of laundry detergent, dishwashing liquid, automatic dishwasher detergent, and as a mild, general cleanser and body soap.

With 2.1 million human poisonings reported to the U.S. Poison operate centers in 1999 and more than 50% arresting children under the age of five, it’s no wonder that the numbers are growing in favor of non-toxic homemade cleaners. After all, when was the last time you saw a warning label or poison operate whole slapped on a bottle of vinegar?

But can these uncomplicated ingredients verily keep harmful bacteria and germs under control?

Vinegar is a powerful disinfectant. Undiluted vinegar kills 99% of bacteria, 82% of mold and 80% of viruses according to Heinz company spokesperson Michael Mullen. The only fancy vinegar is not labeled as a disinfectant is because it would first have to be registered as a pesticide with the Epa - probably not good for sales in the salad section.

We may not be able to safe ourselves from all the harmful substances contaminating our planet, but we do have the power to cut the whole of toxic chemicals we come into feel with on a daily basis.

The idea of becoming healthy begins in the mind. Once the idea becomes conscious it can expand into action, usually by a change toward a healthier diet. More consciousness will lead the health-wise to detoxify their bodies of accumulated harmful substances. healthy steps in the right direction. But why stop there? perhaps when our homes are free of dangerous toxic chemicals we will be ready to take the next step - the vital step toward detoxifying our planet.

Recipes

Each “detox” needs to be adjusted to the individual. In the same way, each home has different needs, so experiment with the recipes below to find out what works best for you.

Air Freshener: Air out your home daily. There is no air freshener like outdoor oxygen – even in Manhattan or L.A. You can also place small bowls of baking soda and/or vinegar nearby the home to catch unpleasant odors. Simmering your popular aromatic herb in water will give a nice, broad scent to your home. You can also use principal oils for the same purpose. Use Lavender to relax and ease headaches.

All-purpose cleaner: Every morning I fill my kitchen sink with hot water, a handful of castile soap flakes and a tablespoon or two of baking soda. I use this to wipe down surfaces as well as a pre-wash for the dishes in the dishwasher. A more basic cleaner is naturally baking soda in water. The proportions depend on the task at hand.

Oven cleaner: Make a thick paste of baking soda and water. First wipe down the oven with the hot water, soap and baking soda mixture, then scrub out any burnt spots, and after that apply the paste. Let stand for a few minutes before washing off.

Disinfectant: Plain white vinegar, undiluted. You can also use a concentrate of drops of tea-tree principal oil in hot soapy water.

Drain Cleaner: Pour ½ cup baking soda down the drain, then ½ cup of vinegar to follow. Cover the drain immediately so that the vinegar can react with the baking soda. Then run hot water to flush the drain out.

Floors: A few spoonfuls of vinegar added to the water in the mop bucket will clean all floor surfaces. For linoleum, add a few drops of olive oil, and to buff the old wood floors use equal amounts of olive oil and vinegar and rub in.

Brass and copper: Use lemon juice with a bit of salt. whether rub a lemon slice directly on the metal, or naturally rub the mixture in with a soft cloth. If you are not pleased with the results, try a mixture of vinegar and salt instead.

Silver: Aluminum foil sprinkled with salt and baking soda in a bowl of water cleans silver beautifully. Submerge silver in the bowl. Let sit a few minutes, or until the tarnish has gravitated to the aluminum foil then dry and buff.

Laundry: Replace dangerous laundry detergents with pure castile soap. Adding a ½ cup of baking soda to the wash will help whiten whites and brighten colors. The baking soda also acts as a water softener, therefore boosting the effectiveness of the soap. Add a cup of vinegar to the rinse cycle as fabric softener. The vinegar also strips away any residual soap left on the clothes. Don’t worry, your clothes will not smell like a bowl of salad. Vinegar leaves no odor once dry. Still, I like to add a few sprigs of lavender to the dryer in a small cotton pouch if I don’t hang up the clothes to dry outside. You could also add a few drops of principal oil like ylang-ylang with the vinegar rinse if you wish. If you need bleach, try hydrogen peroxide instead of chlorine.

Automatic dishwashing liquid: Dilute castile soap in water (if using flakes). Add any citrus principal oil or mixture of oils. Lemon, orange, bergamot and lavender are nice. Store liquid in a bottle and place a tablespoon in the automatic dispenser of your dishwasher. For very dirty dishes, add ½ cup of vinegar to the cycle to cut grease and shine the glassware. I often naturally fill the dishwasher dispenser with vinegar and wash at a higher temperature.

Toilet bowl cleaner: Use baking soda as a scouring powder on the inside of the bowl.

Window cleaner: ½ cup of vinegar in a spray bottle filled with water. Use newspaper instead of paper towels for streak-free windows and mirrors.

Marble surfaces: Marble is the only covering where vinegar is not recommended due to its acidic nature. Baking soda sprinkled on marble, then washed up with a wet sycophant works well, or you could make a castile soap and baking soda solution as well.

Litter box: add a generous layer of baking soda on the bottom of the litter box to help keep odors at bay. Also spread baking soda on the bottom of the garbage can.
